Early detection and reassurance are central to this service. If you are concerned about a mole, new lesion, or a change in an existing lesion, professional assessment is essential.

This service is designed to provide clarity, peace of mind, and appropriate onward referral where necessary.

How the Map My Mole Service Works

During your appointment, high resolution clinical and dermoscopic images are taken of the lesion using specialist equipment. These images, along with relevant medical history, are securely submitted to a consultant dermatologist for expert review.

You will receive a detailed dermatology report outlining whether the lesion appears benign, requires monitoring, or should be referred for further investigation.

This is not a cosmetic assessment. It is a clinical skin cancer screening support service.

When Should You Book a Skin Lesion Check

You should consider a skin lesion check if you notice:

  • A new skin lesion appearing in adulthood
  • A skin lesion that has changed in size, shape, or colour
  • Irregular borders
  • Multiple colours within one skin lesion
  • Persistent itching, bleeding, or crusting
  • A skin lesion that looks different from others on your body
  • A skin lesion you are unsure about

If you are unsure, it is always safer to have a lesion professionally assessed.

What This Service Is Not

This service does not replace a GP or hospital pathway if urgent referral is required. If a lesion is highly suspicious during assessment, you will be advised to seek urgent medical review immediately.

The Map My Mole service provides specialist dermatology opinion and guidance but does not include biopsy or surgical removal.

If your report confirms that the skin lesion is not of concern, it may be possible to remove it here in clinic using cryotherapy, where clinically appropriate.
